Biography

Born in London, England in 1927. A native of Essex, England. The only child of Harold and Clarise Lawrence of Ilford. Essex. He was married to Marsha McCurley – an American. Lived in a small university town in South Carolina. Had two daughters by a previous marriage, Anne-Marie an ex-teacher living in the UK, and Barbara a mechanical designer living in the USA. He considered Brighton UK to be home town. He was a design engineer for his freelance consulting company. Died in 2010.

Education:

Chelmsford Tech. College – Nat. Cert. in Mech. Engineering. Also attended Watford and Twickenham Tech. Colleges.

 

Occupation:

1943 – 1946 Draughtsman – Permutit Co. Water Treatment Engrs. London.
1946 – 1948 Draughtsman – Davy, Paxman & Co. Colchester.
1948 – 1975 Draughtsman/R&D Engr./Process Engr./Project Engineer J.Lyons & Co, London.
1975 – 1986 – Freelance Draughting & Project business. UK & USA.
1986 – 2010 – Pres. of David Lawrence Projects, Inc.

Career highlights:

With J.Lyons & Co London. – Patent holder of food manufacturing machine designs. Process, R&D, and Commissioning Engr. for Harvest Pie Plants in London and Glasgow employing the above machine.

For Nucor Steel – Prepared designs and was commissioning consultant for Intersteel Tech. Inc. of the first continuous steel melting plant in the world at Nucor Steel, Darlington, South Carolina, USA.

Pen & Ink Drawing,
Meccano & other model construction systems,
Web design,
North Wales.

Other activities:

Designed for British Rail (Southern) their network map.
Edited and published media magazine for 19 years.
Started a railway e-group on the internet.
Wrote step-by-step drawing course.
Published collection of pen & ink portraits ‘Faces of the old Millennium’.
